OUR CHALLENGE
The GTF is knowledgeable and understanding of the barriers to effective education in many parts of the world. As reported by UNESCO: “Home conditions, long distances to school, and lack of safety, especially for girls, pose further barriers to an effective learning experience. Many children also attend school without any previous exposure to formal learning. Many children come to school accompanied by their younger siblings as there is nobody to care for them at home. Childhood is often burdened by responsibilities of cleaning, washing, cooking, looking after cattle, caring for their siblings, collecting firewood, earning additional income for the family and so on. Taking these challenges into account, it becomes clear that traditional frontal teaching and rote learning do not enhance many children’s motivation for school.”
The reality of an opportunity visualized by the GTF:
“The challenges to effective education, within each individual country, are both universal and specific. As broad and as numerous as those challenges are, the GTF also understands its limitations and specific expertise. The contribution it can make is to assure those who are challenged by the elements and adversities, those who do make the difficult journey to find an education, will upon arrival at that destination find a true “world-class” educator. They will benefit from an educator who understands their struggles, their dreams and can provide them hope. They will appreciate an educator who will show them the relevancy and value of an education as a giant step toward helping to extricate themselves from their difficult environments. Upon receivng an effective education, the students will then be able to assist others in eliminating the challenges and barriers to a fruitful life.”
